Ryan Star

INDIE / POP / ROCK

"I was always told that I need a story — a tale that makes people want to hear the music. My belief (although maybe illogical in this crazy business) is the opposite: to have songs that make people want to hear the story. So, I guess you can call this the epilogue to my songs..."

Ryan Star has been writing and performing music longer than he has not. In his early years he listened to The Doors, The Stones, Janis, Joni, The Who, Simon and Garfunkel, and countless other legends. Later on he became familiar with Pearl Jam, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Nirvana. One day he picked up his brother's guitar and that was it, music took his soul. At the age of 14 Star formed a band and became the lead singer. That was his life for the next 12 years.
In 2003 the band signed to Maverick Records and released a self titled album; Stage. When the band parted ways, Star decided it was time to move on to something different. He needed more from life and music and parted with his band and best friends of ten years to take the leap and follow his heart.

"I'm breaking out it's a tidal wave of everything to come. I'm breaking out, so I'll ride the wave and see what I become... Stop trying to be so ordinary. Be strong, be brave and begin your story. 'Cause it's all that you've got when you make it in this world...

Star went back home to where he learned about who he was and where his dreams were discovered. It was then that he wrote and recorded 20 songs in 20 days and called the collection Songs From The Eye Of An Elephant. It went on to fuel his indie success in New York and put Ryan Star on the map as a solo artist. Star participated as one of the contestants on the CBS reality television show of the second season of Rock Star. He was the "indie" guy on an international television show and it's success brought him from the small hipster clubs of NYC to stages around the world.
Ryan Star signed with long-time believers in what he was doing - Atlantic Records. Through this lengthy story of ups and downs one idea has remained constant and that is Star's passion for music. He has seen a lot and changed his sound for every album he has ever put out but always with one voice of truth. Here he is at the dawn of a new day and although Ryan Star is much different now, his dreams are still the same.
